Pipeline Condition Analysis

Client

Operators

Problem

To ensure the integrity of their pipelines, operators must evaluate their technical condition, so that they can plan and carry out appropriate maintenance and repairs.

Evaluations of the condition can be based on various measurements, such as inline inspection or cathodic protection performance.

The condition analysis is often difficult because:

> The data are available in differing formats

> Some key data may be difficult to find

> Data may be incomplete or not correctly positioned

> The quantity of data is overwhelming

> The technical know how to perform condition assessments is not available in house

Operators want to minimise operating expenditure while maintaining the highest levels of safety. To achieve this, operational processes, including maintenance must be optimised.

Solution

DMC one will gather all condition data together, prepare and assess it for usefulness.

Then we will centralise and unify the data, so that a complete current picture of pipeline condition is achieved. The work includes:

> Review and cataloguing of data

> Conversion and digitising of data

> Structuring of data e.g. in databases

> Positioning / improvement & correction of positioning

> Preparation of a report, highlighting areas of concern and the evidence

This is carried out using DMC one’s Pipeline Manager software, particularly the Pipeline Condition Analysis module, which supports the alignment and comparison of many varied datasets relating to pipeline condition.

DMC one will not make engineering judgements, nor will it provide statements of fitness for purpose or otherwise. These judgements are left to the operator or alternatively to third party experts.

DMC one does provide a consistent and complete basis for such engineering decisions and the best information to support any required repair work.

Results

> Complete, consistent set of pipeline condition information Daten

> Exception report with commentaries for all recognised areas of concern

Benefits

> The use of data is also available for other purposes

> Client can better judge (alone or with expert advice) the condition of the pipeline, future fitness for purpose.

> Any repair works can be carried out more efficiently due to more exact positioning of feature data.

> The reliability of the information basis for decisions is higher as all related data sets can be compared properly.
